Enjoy!

Don’t forget to stop and smell the roses… and the lavender! It’s easy to begin to overlook the beauty that surrounds us everyday. Since I’ve been in Santa Cristina d’Aro, I’ve made a conscious effort to take a bit more notice. I will admit, it’s not such a challenge when the sights are as pretty as this!

Domen de la Cova d’en Daina

Quite close to Hotel Golf Costa Brava is one of the most complete dolmen you can find. Locals say that if you lay on the forrest floor inside the structure you can feel the energy vibrate around you. Even if that’s not your thing it’s worth a visit to walk amongst the cork trees. Ever wonder when you are opening a bottle of your favorite wine where that little tan stopper comes from? The hills of Costa Brava are filled with cork trees and their twisted, speckled trunks make you feel as though you are walking through a mystical forrest.

Platja d’Aro at Night

The relaxing atmosphere of Hotel Golf Cost Brava has you recharged and ready to paint the town red! Where should you go? Platja d’Aro is close by and crawling with nightlife. Weather you are looking to dance the night away, dine at a restaurant with a beach view, or sip a delicious cocktail or two, you will find plenty of options there to chose from. If you are in the mood for something really special, I suggest you explore the drink menu at Baobab. If you don’t like gin, this place may just change your mind – it did for me. Having tried the classic gin and tonic combo in the past and never enjoyed it, I was hesitant to give this spirit another chance, but when I tried one of Baobab’s signature drinks I was quite surprised! Even better, after talking to the bartender, I learned that he is the director of Sinatra Cockteleria. So when the man behind the bar tells me he is an award winning gin mixologist (3rd best in the WORLD), running a business teaching others the art of making the perfect cocktail, you better believe I am going to say yes when he asks me if I am feeling adventurous 🙂 My next two drinks were custom creations that were out of this world. Smells, flavors, colors, all precisely blended to perfection. Sergio Rodriguez, you are quite the artist! The staff at Baobab was also great company – thank you Dani and Melanie!

Bring Your Snorkel!

Or rent one 🙂 or you can even buy one at Decathlon, the sporting goods store right up the street from Platja d’Aro. Today was another quick get away “just to swim for an hour or so.” My destination was not the main beach in Platja d’Aro, but a smaller one just around the bend named Sa Conca. It was later in the day, around 6 pm, so people were starting to filter out when I arrived. I headed into the water – it was warmer than the main beach and other areas I had swum before. As I walked in I couldn’t help but notice the ocean floor was grassy and a bit rocky, and the water was crystal clear. Soon I saw a couple little fish and thought, I bet this is a great place to go snorkeling… So all this time I thought my Catalan friend always had goggles with him because he is busy swimming laps. Turned out he had an extra pair and they were awesome for allowing me to see what was happening under the waves! I saw dozens of species of fish, see urchin, and really incredible aquatic plants lining the ocean floor. I have snorkeled in Puerto Rico and Mexico before – the growth here is much different here tho and vert varied . It was really cool to get the chance to compare.

Unfortunately, since I was headed for a dip in the ocean, I didn’t bring my camera. (This blog shows a good view of where I was: platjad.blogspot.com.es) Some things you just have to see for yourself anyway. Ask the folks at Hotel Golf Costa Brava to direct you to the best snorkeling spots in town – you won’t be disappointed!
